QUÉBEC INTERNATIONAL BONSPIEL

Honouring Outstanding Contributions

Over the years, the Bonspiel has developed a tradition of honouring certain players or teams / groups of players for their contribution to or participation in, the tournament.

On the Sunday morning prior to the Bonspiel, the “Rookies Class” (the group of players participating in their first QIB) is presented to the President and the Rookie “event” sponsors. During this morning reception, the Rookies will receive their commemorative pins and identification. A committee is formed to observe and evaluate the Rookies’ behaviour during the week and based on established criteria, a “Rookie of the Year” will be chosen. The “Rookie of the Year” will be named during the Grand Banquet (Wednesday evening) and be presented with a commemorative plaque.

During Sunday afternoon prior to the Opening Ceremonies, several ceremonies / receptions will be held honouring the players participating in their fifth (5th), tenth (10th, the “Decaders’ Club), fifteenth (15th), and twentieth (20th) Bonspiels. At these separate receptions, commemorative pins are distributed to these players, while those joining the “Decaders’ Club” also receive a commemorative certificate. We are also honouring the players participating in their thirtieth and forthieth Bonspiel.

At the Grand Banquet, a special ceremony is held to recognize the outstanding contribution of those players who have played in their 25th Bonspiel. The new “Quarter Century Club” members are presented with a commemorative scroll and ring. Each year, between six and ten players join this august group.

Finally, the Executive Committee reserves the right to recognize an outstanding contribution to the Bonspiel, by awarding an “Honour and Merit” citation to a deserving player at the Grand Banquet.
